Somewhere outside of the small steel town of Youngstown, Ohio, in the late nineties, a new sound was forming. It started slowly, like an avalanche picking up momentum as it relentlessly consumed everything in its path unaffected by criticism or attempts by the beautiful people and the powers that be to contain it. This sound spoke for a generation that would have nothing to with the rat race and the dragon chasing of the American Dream or the terrible lies preached by the media that keep the masses content with their existence. Everywhere around them the American Dream had turned into the American nightmare. Nightmares disappear when you awake. This new sound is the Youngstown, Ohio Rap-Core sextet Cyrus and it’s your wake-up call. In a former life Cyrus was known as Sift and appeared live on MTV competing with several other bands with KORN as the judges. After attaining victory, Cyrus, bolstered by their triumph on the airwaves set about to re-tool their vision. They knew they didn't want to have a limp retread of their previous incarnation and they didn't want the new band to be an orgy of self-indulgence. Trading in one member for two new ones, Cyrus locked themselves into their practice chamber and proceeded to shed their old skin. Writing songs that spoke of the courage of moving toward your goals in spite of your fear. Factories, steel mills and empty streets provide the creative canvas for Cyrus to paint their musical landscapes. The attempt to first express this art through recording was a huge success. Songs from the spring 2001 demo sessions were leaked to the fans and the “Cyrus-virus” spread quickly. In two weeks the band sold 250 of the four song CD’s. These CD’s continue to allow the band to build upon their already large attendance at their live shows. From the CD, the single “Give” races through the region as a Summer hit. Cyrus are confident that their listeners can make their own decisions about what type of band Cyrus is. Cyrus simply describe themselves as heavy.
