Born: November 4, 1937 - Died: July 3, 1993 Native son of Navasota, Texas. Nicknamed "The Singing Buckaroo". He started singing at the tender age of five. When he was just thirteen, he was entertaining the radio audiences in Holbrook, Arizona. He was also said to have been part of minstrel shows throughout the state of Texas. By the time he was fifteen, he was a regular on the Town Hall Party. Signed a recording contract with Capitol Records in 1965. In 1965, he penned the song, "An Occasional Wife" that became a big hit for Country Music Hall of Famer, Faron Young. He wrote other songs such as "The Great Tear Maker" and "Nothing But Time" .
