Shadowyze (pronounced Shadowise) is a rap artist/activist of Creek (Muskogee), Cherokee, Irish & Swedish heritage. Since 1989 he has been writing and performing rap music. He has toured with 95 South (of `WhoopThere it is' fame) to five major U.S. cities. He has opened for such artists as Ice-T, Queen Latifah and Digital Underground. Shadowyze broke onto the national scene with his maxi-single CD about the genocide of Mayan Indians in Chiapas, Mexico. Entitled "Murder in Our Backyard"; it was released in January 1999 on his own label, Red Earth Records. The impact of that CD resulted in numerous magazine articles and CD reviews in Native Peoples, Aboriginal Voices, News From Indian Country Today and Whispering Wind (See Vol. 30, #3, Page 34). "Murder in our Backyard" was even nominated for a NAMMY in the "Best Rap/Hip-Hop Recording" category this past year. His new CD, "Spirit Warrior" is made up of 18 tracks. The songs are about everything from human rights violations and ethnocide (cultural eradication) to land rights and alcoholism.
