CENTURY was founded in August 1995 as a side project by CREMATORY drummer Markus Jüllich, Gernot Leinert (keyboards) and Michael Rohr (vocals). After a two-year working phase, in December 1997 they went to the Commusication recording studios with the in-house and court producer of CREMATORY, Gerhard Magin, in order to record the self-produced demo CD “Lost”. This demo CD was used to introduce the band to record companies and the press. As a newcomer sensation and Germany's hope of the '90s, CENTURY was celebrated in the entire gothic/wave and alternative press. The band received top marks from the press and numerous offers from record companies. It turned out that CENTURY is a band that breaks new musical ground, creates atmospheric, catchy-melancholic music with catchy melodies and has its roots in gothic pop and dark wave with main influences from the '80s. The mix of Wave/Pop from the '80s, decorated with modern keyboard elements and driving guitars, is the concept of CENTURY. Lyrically, the processing of very personal feelings of singer Michael Rohr is in the foreground. The lyrics act as a mirror of self-awareness and should, in harmony with the music, make the listener think. In October 1998, CENTURY signed their first record deal with USG Records. “The Secret Inside” was recorded and mixed in December '98 and January '99 at Commusication Recording Studios with Producer Gerhard Magin (CREMTORY, Theater of Tragedy, Six Was Nine). Markus Tiedemann (Six was Nine) was even able to sign up as a guest musician for the pop elements, while Kristian Kohlmannslehner was responsible for the heavyness of the guitars. In April 1999 the debut album “The Secret Inside” was released worldwide. In order to present themselves live to the audience, CENTURY toured Germany at the same time as the release in April 1999, supporting HIM. In May 1999 CREMATORY and in September 1999 PARADISE LOST were very successfully supported by CENTURY on their European tours. What originally started with Markus Jüllich (drums), Gernot Leinert (keyboards) and Michael Rohr (vocals) as a trio with various guest musicians, became over time, and above all because of the successful tours, with Kristian Kohlmannslehner (guitar), Guido Holzmann (bass) and Andreas Neuderth (drums), who has already played drums for Markus Jüllich on a number of tours, complete a “real” band. Markus Jüllich had vacated his place as drummer for Andreas Neuderth and taken over the task as second keyboard player with a focus on programming and sampling. Due to the dissolution of USG Records, CENTURY were contract-free in December 1999 and signed a new contract with Drakkar Entertainment for the newly founded label E-Wave Records in August 2000. The release date for the album “melancholia” was February 19th, 2001. “melancholia” – that was the title of the second CD from CENTURY. On this hitherto catchy, most mature and most impressive work, CENTURY inspired in every respect. The melancholy and touching album showed that the former side project had grown into an established band. In short, on “melancholia” the fan got everything his heart desired and a little bit more;... In February 2001, CENTURY acted as support for CREMATORY on their anniversary tour and presented the songs of "melancholia" impressively on stages that mean the world. In the summer of 2001, various festivals and open-air concerts were successfully completed. In March 2002 they started writing new songs that will be released on CENTURY's third album, which is expected to be released in early 2003. Due to great demand and the constantly growing fan community, the long out of print debut album "the secret inside", which was no longer available due to the dissolution of the label USG at the time, will be digitally re-mastered on April 29th, 2002 via E-Wave Records and re-released with a new cover.
