The George Duke Band

The first lineup consisting of George Duke (keyboards/vocals), Lynn Davis (vocals), Josie James (vocals), Leon Ndugu Chancler (drums), Sheila Escovedo (percussion/vocals), Napoleon M. Brock (vocals), Byron Miller (bass), and Charles Johnson (2) (guitar). After appearing on a series of George Duke's albums, the band experienced a lineup change in 1980, a year after the release of his album "Master of the Game" in 1979. Duke re-emerged with a new band lineup of Lynn Davis (vocals), Marcy Levy (vocals), Robert Brookins (synth keyboards/vocal), Louis Johnson (bass), Steve Ferrone (drums), and Paul Jackson Jr. (guitar) in 1983. This lineup recorded a live album in Japan titled 3117543. They also appeared on Yuichiro Oda's 4821482 and Katia's Party Lights in 1984. Musicians including Carl Carwell, Chester Thompson, Rachelle Ferrell, Freddie Washington, and many more would later play in the band in the later years. A lineup consisting of Duke (keyboards/vocal), Rachelle Ferrell (vocals), Jonathan Butler (guitar/vocals), Little John Roberts (drums), Larry Kimpel (bass/vocals), Brian Simpson (keyboards), and Mino Cinelu (percussion) would later perform at Montreux in 1997, and release live concert DVD called "Live at Montreux" in 2007. In 2008, the original members reunited for George Duke's album on the songs "Dukey Treats" and "Mercy".
