Detroit native Chrissie Clees has been active in the local art community for nearly two decades. Her innovative, thought-provoking work has been featured in several local publications including Real Detroit Weekly and The Metro Times and has been a featured guest on Detroit’s 101.9 FM, WDET’s Chuck Horn Show, speaking about her creative endeavors. Her work has been showcased locally at The Cranbrook Art Museum and The Detroit Electronic Music Festival and her visual stylings have been utilized in promotional materials and marketing campaigns nationwide. Additionally, she has collaborated on creative projects with numerous local, national, and international companies and artists while expanding her own artistic repertoire by continually exhibiting her work. Clees operates under the studio name Detreux, publishing her own hand-crafted books. These publications have been released all over the globe, and emphasize her talent in photography, manual double exposure/manipulated photography, graphic design, writing, acrylic and oil painting, paper collage, Prisma pencil drawing, ink experiments, and watercolor painting. Her most recent publication was released after spending over a year collaborating and gathering inspiration in Germany. Currently, Clees’ primary focuses are photography and collage, though her style and media are constantly evolving. After a hiatus of several years following the birth of her son in 2003, she publishes a retrospective collection of private work spanning nearly two decades. This collection will highlight some of the artist’s new offerings including recent experiments in water photography and hand-made collage for a fresh and intriguing mix.
