Mildred Means

Mildred Means was a gospel vocalist. Born in 1918 and raised in Atlanta, Georgia and eventually moving to Detroit, MI, she joined and was a featured soloist for the singing choir, The Loftonaires (out of the Church of Our Prayer). Years later she became a member of Reverend C.L. Franklin's church choir, and that's where Clara Ward "discovered" Mildred Means. Mildred came to the group in 1959 and remained until the late 1960's. Mildred was known for ability to hit high notes and hold them for long periods of time. She passed in November 2016, nearing the age of 98.
