Producer from Ghana, most famous as founder / owner of the renowned label Essiebons label and for ownting the Elephant Walk Studio. He was born on 1st May 1930 and died in Accra on August 19, 2020. After attending schools in Accra and Cape Coast he went to England for further education. He returned to Ghana to work as an accountant. During this time, he worked on his music business on the side and established Essiebons. In 1969 he secured an agreement with Philips Phonographic Industries to jointly found Record Manufacturers (Ghana) Ltd. [R.M.G.L.]. The business comprised a recording studio and pressing plant and it attracted business from all over West Africa. His father Nana Essilfie-Bondzie was also involved. In 1970 he released the first ever made in Ghana long playing (LP) record by Ghanaian artistes. In 1972 he formed The Apagya Show Band. In March 1990, Dick Essilfie-Bondzie was the recipient of the Entertainment Critics and Reviewers Association of Ghana (ECRAG) ‘Special Honours for Music Production Award’. In 2008, he was given a National Award for Music Production – Grand Medal Division. He was the president of Record Producers and Music Publishers Association of Ghana (REPPAGH) until his death.
