Russian opera singer (lyric coloratura soprano) (born January 20, 1882 in St. Petersburg, Russia – died October 12, 1953, Leningrad [today St. Petersburg], Russia) Bronskaja (a.k.a. Bronskaya) studied voice in St. Petersburg and Milan. In 1896, she made her debut as a concert singer in the Gunterburg resort (now Ust-Narva); in 1900, she performed in her first opera in St. Petersburg. Her career brought her from Tiflis, Kiev, Moscow, Kharkiv, and Odessa back to St. Petersburg. From 1905 to 1910, she toured France, Italy, and the United States, singing with the Boston Opera Company in Boston, Chicago, and Philadelphia. Between 1910 and 1923, she was a soloist at the Mariinski Theatre in St. Petersburg. From 1923 to 1950, she taught at the Leningrad Conservatory. Known for her beautiful voice, "silver" timbre, extensive range, and clear and distinct coloratura, Bronskaja recorded widely for labels such as Pathé (Moscow, 1905), Columbia (New York City, 1910), and Amour Gramophone Record (St. Petersburg, 1913-1914). Many of these recordings were later reissued by Мелодия.
