Об исполнителе:
Born one of four brothers in the Loma Rosa barrio in Corpus Christi, Texas, on January 3, 1934, Oscar Martinez attended public schools and first learned tuba and saxophone in the Roy Miller High School Buccaneer band. As a teenager he played professionally in local nightclubs like El Macambo and Ibarra’s while working in his father’s auto repair shop during the day. He joined the Isidro López Orchestra in 1954 but was unable to tour because of his day job selling auto parts. In 1958, he launched his own Impala record label and formed a seven-piece band, switching to trumpet and hiring Juan Perez as vocalist. Early on, the Oscar Martinez Band had several hits: “La Lumbre”, “Llorando Por Ti,” “Makes No Difference,” and “La Bamba,” all promoted on his daily KCCT radio show. In 1965, he began a string of hits when Isidro Lopez and then his own group recorded “El Tejano Enamorado ” followed by “El Gallo Copetón” and “Corpus Christi Rose” among others.
