George Stone (b. 19 Jan 1965) is an American composer, trumpeter, pianist, arranger, music educator, recording engineer and producer. He currently serves as the Director of Audio Technology and teaches music theory and composition at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, California. In 1990, while employed by the software developer Passport Designs, Inc., Stone wrote an iconic MIDI composition Trip Through the Grand Canyon, which appeared as CANYON.MID system file in every Microsoft Windows version from Windows 3.0 to Windows 2000. Stone was born and raised in Newhall, California, and received his degrees from the California State University, Northridge. After graduating from Cal State Northridge, George Stone taught music at William S. Hart High School and led the William S. Hart High School Chieftains Jazz Ensemble. For eleven years, he was a member of the American Jazz Philharmonic and composed and arranged music for various big bands and ensembles. Stone has collaborated with many critically-acclaimed artists, including Maynard Ferguson, Dirk and Clare Fischer, David Foster, Dave Grusin, Tom Scott, and The Tonight Show Band with Doc Severinsen. He has composed for industry entities such as NBC (2), HBO, Warner Bros., CBS, Magic Kingdom on Ice, Miss America, and Disneyland.
