New Helsinki Quartet (Uusi Helsinki Kvartetti in Finnish) is a Finnish string quartet with Petri Aarnio and Taija Angervo, violin, Ilari Angervo, viola, and Tuomas Lehto, cello. The quartet was founded in 1982, when Jan Söderblom and Satu sulkumäki, violin, Ilari Angervo, viola, and Jan-Erik Gustafsson (2), cello, played in it. The quartet has been awarded in three string quartet competitions: the Viitasaari Quartet Competition (1984), the Concertino Praga Competition (1984) and the London International String Quartet Competition (1994). In addition to Finland, the quartet has performed in various parts of Europe as well as in Japan, Australia, USA and Israel. In addition to concerts, New Helsinki Quartet has made several recordings and radio recordings.
