Russian-American photographer. The author of iconic photographs of Mstislav Rostropovich, Владимир Высоцкий Leonid Lubianitsky is a third-generation photographer, winner of numerous professional awards, a friend of the poet Иосиф Бродский and a photography teacher of the famous dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov. Lubianitsky's photographs have been published in many American publications, including the New York Times, Time, Fortune, People and Vogue. Leonid Lubianitsky was born on April 19, 1938 in Leningrad (USSR). He began photography at the age of 6 under the guidance of his father. At the age of 17, after the sudden death of his father, Lubianitsky began working in a photo studio, helping to feed his family. Being drafted into the Soviet Army, he continued to engage in photography - aerial photography. In 1960, he began his career as a cinematographer on Leningrad television, making documentaries on art and television programs for children. In parallel with this, Leonid Lubianitsky published his photographs in various magazines and books. In 1972, he immigrated to the United States, where his first job was as an assistant to the legendary Richard Avedon, whose photographs became part of world culture and were included in the permanent exhibition of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Leonid Lubianitsky always considered himself his follower. Leonid Lubianitsky's career was greatly aided by Conde Nast Publications artistic director Alexander Liberman, who hired him as a regular celebrity photographer for the People Are Talking About section of Voque magazine. At the same time, the works of Leonid Lubianitsky were published in various American and European magazines, such as New York Times Magazine, Time, Fortune, People, Horizon, Look. He also received contracts to work with well-known record labels such as Arista, CBS and Polydor. His photographs featured in US News and World Report advertisements were awarded the ANDY Award of the NY Advertising Club. Unlike many modern artists, Leonid Lubianitsky adhered to the traditional methods of photography and photo printing, based on the use of film and photographic paper, until the end of his life.
