English cinematographer, CBE (Commander of the Most Excellent Order), member of the British and the American Societies of Cinematographers (b. 24 May 1949, Torquay, Devon). Active since the early 1980s, Sir Roger Deakins is best known for collaborating with brothers Joel and Ethan Coen, for whom he shot twelve movies, including Fargo (1996), The Big Lebowski (98), O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000) and No Country for Old Men ('07). He also worked with other prolific filmmakers, such as Sam Mendes and Denis Villeneuve. Deakins earned over 170 prestigious accolades and awards, including five BAFTA Awards for "Best Cinematography," two Oscars (out of fifteen nominations), and two special "Pierre Angénieux ExcelLens in Cinematography" awards at the Cannes Film Festival.
