Ansgar Krook

Swedish conductor, born on 2 March, 1962 in Uppsala, son of lector Hans Krook his wife Ursula, and died 29 September, 1992 in Stockholm. He founded the KammarensembleN in 1984 and until his death was also it's artistic director. He started out as a clarinetist and singer. He studied in Stockholm, Finland and Italy. He learned conducting from Eric Ericson, Jorma Panula and Franco Ferrara. But even before he got that far, he was noticed: In 1975, he played the Second Spirit, one of the Three Boys in Ingmar Bergman's movie "The Magic Flute" on TV, released on record as [m847652] In the mid-80s, he presented his Swedish chamber ensemble, which would become KammarensembleN, a flexible group from 2 to 30 musicians. They concentrated on contemporary music, preferably Swedish ditto and most preferably domestic fresh produce produced just for KammarensembleN. The interpretations of extremely difficult works such as Alban Berg's chamber concerto were praised in Swedish newspapers. Ansgar Krook, started marketing and PR, he got sponsors. He had professionals light and visualize his concerts (e.g. the series "Tredje örat" at Radiohuset). He hired scenographers and directors. As in the spring of 1991's Kulturhus series "Virtuoser", where Etienne Glaser "instrumented" the venue differently for each performance and directed both musicians, audience and environment. The concerts of the "virtuosos" became cult events.
