Philippe Mercier (2)

French painter, born in Berlin of French extraction in 1689 and died in London in 1760. Mercier worked the best part of his life in Britain and was appointed ''principal painter and librarian'' by the Prince and Princess of Wales. Best known for his portraits of royalty and other celebrities.
