The Escorts were formed in the early 60s out of Brisbane with Dennis Annable on vocals, Jimmy Hannon on guitar, Bill George on sax and Barry Annable on drums. In 1963 guitarist Paul Schorr joined the band and Dennis Annable moved to bass. In 1965 Bill George departed and was replaced by keyboard player John Brodie. Now settled the band served as backing musicians for a number of Sunshine label artists including Ross D Wylie and Mike Furber. In June 1965 they supported a national tour by The Dave Clark Five and The Seekers. In 1966 Jimmy Hannon departed the band. The Escorts were the house band on the QLD TV music program Countdown compered by David Greenwood and backed most of the artists that appeared on the show. In 1967 as a four piece they released a couple of singles in their own right: ''The House On Soul Hill/Sound Of Your Voice'' in July and ''On A Day Like Today/Sitting By A Tree'' in September. The band also did a national tour with Normie Rowe. They called it a day in 1970.
