"A gifted songwriter RPM Magazine. Jonathan Mullane began playing bass guitar in his hometown of Halifax, Nova Scotia, at the age of 12; he formed his first band at 15 with some school friends. Later, while pursuing a degree in psychology, Jon began singing and playing guitar and keyboards professionally in clubs and at universities with several popular Eastern Canadian cover bands. In the early '90s, he created his own band and gained extensive media attention through CBC's Regional Songwriting and Q104's Homegrown competitions. In 1991, Jonathan released his first independent album, Following Yesterday, to both critical and commercial success. The single and video for "One More Chance" received extensive radio and television coverage, creating a national profile for the artist on the Canadian music scene. In 1992, he joined forces with members of the legendary Canadian rock band Saga, along with top East Coast musicians, and recorded and toured throughout Ontario. Over the last few years, high-profile concerts in Atlantic Canada established Jon as a top live act. In 1995, Jonathan released a self-titled album that was produced by Saga's Steve Negus. The album met with critical acclaim both in Europe, through Germany's Long Island Records, and at home, with reviews in The Record, RPM and Network magazines. In 1998, Jon was selected as a showcase artist at that year's East Coast Music Awards. Jonathan continues to write and record at his home studio, where he has been honing a new, ever-evolving sound. "For me, melody is the most important part of the song," he says. "It's what people take away with them, what they remember. Everything else is secondary." His third CD, titled "Day After Day" was recently released on his own Flying Disc Records label, the follow up to 1997's self-titled album. Released on his own Flying Disc Records label, which he created in 1996, and co-produced by Chris Ianetti and Ron Huestis, the disc will feature a diverse collection of pop songs tinged with elements of dance, R&B and electronica. "My goal is to write great songs and make compelling records." Jonathan M
