American engineer. Born 30 September 1899 in Berlin, Camden, New Jersey - Died 27 October 1956 in Camden, New Jersey. One of RCA's top recording engineers. He joined the Company in 1919 and spent the last 30 years of his tenure in the recording field. He was originally stationed in Camden, but later joined the staffs of Victor's Chicago and New York City headquarters. In 1927 he travelled to Japan and China, where he recorded many sides for Victor. He specialized in the pop and country fields. In the latter field he worked under Ralph Peer years ago and later under Steve Sholes. Artists Elsasser recorded included Jimmie Rodgers, The Carter Family, Rudy Vallee, Don Bestor, Jean Goldkette, and Paul Whiteman. He also did much re-processing of noted performances in the Victor catalog including Enrico Caruso masters.
