João Castro Pinto

Portuguese artist interested in the art of composing silence with sounds. He studied Philosophy at the New University of Lisbon and did his Ph.D. dissertation in Computer Music @ U.C.P. / C.I.T.A.R. - Research Centre for Science and Technology of the Arts. His sound work ranges between: soundscape composition, dense droning, noise, electroacoustic, acousmatic, tape music & experimental electronic genres. He plays live electroacoustic music, with and without instrumentalists, as tape music / spatialization concerts. Over 150 performances / concerts / appearances, all over Europe, the U.S.A., South America and Asia. Conceived and directed the "Hertzoscópio - Experimental & Transdisciplinary Arts Festival" dedicated to the divulgation of contemporary experimental music, video-art and intermedia. Played in festivals / events in direct lineups where also played artists such as: Phill Niblock (USA), Miguel Azguime (PT), Lionel Marchetti (FR), Natasha Barrett (UK), Atau Tanaka (JP), Jacob Kierkegaard (DK), Brandon Labelle (USA), Joachim Montessuis (FR), Nikos Veliotis (GR), Marc Behrens (GER), Derek Holzer (USA), Talibam (USA), etc...
