Formed in early 2000s, it is based in Montreal but most of its members come from around Lac-Saint-Jean, in Quebec, Canada. The band released their first two albums under the name Galaxie 500 (referring to a 60s model full-sized Ford), before being threatened of lawsuit by the Massachusetts shoegaze band Galaxie 500. They renamed as Galaxie in 2011.
