Gunnar Knudsen

Norwegian violinist and kapellmeister, 1907-2003. He was the first leader of Stavangerensemblet (2), leading it from its inception in 1938 and til 1944, when he was arrested by the German occupiers. After the war he toured extensively in both Europe and the USA, before returing to Norway and spending the rest of his violinist career as member of the orchestra of the Norwegian Opera, 1959-1977.
