Sam Meltzer

American producer and bootlegger. Owner of a bagel bakery and mail order record shop at 549 Brook Ave. in the Bronx, New York City, in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Behind bootleg labels such as Anchor (4), Blue Ace Records, Century (13), Hot Jazz Club Of America, Jazz Classics (5), Jazz Panorama, and Temple (4). Advertised their products in The Record Changer. Also owned the Hi-Lo Records (4) label, together with Ned Gravely. In the mid-1950s, Meltzer worked for Portem Distributing in New York City. In 1961, he partnered with Tony Sarafino to produce a vocal quartet, The Imaginations (4).
