Kristof Steenhaut

Belgian multi-instrumentalist (7 February 1957 - 16 November 2022). Born in Aalst (Belgium) and immigrated to South Africa in 2000. Kristof made his career as a performing artist in Europe and produced several albums with his own group: L'Express Cajun and with various other artists in Belgium and Europe. For years, Kristof was the accordeon player for the sculpting and singer-songwriter legend, Walter De Buck but also assisted at Stampen En Dagen, Is Cuma Liom and many other Bands in folk music. With his band L'Express Cajun he toured all over Europe and accompanied various Belgian and European artists on their tours. They worked together with Johan Verminnen, Koen De Cauter, Jean-Bosco Safari, Ed Kooyman, Louise Markham, Will Ferdy, Walter De Buck but also worked Kristof as a musician with various artists from other countries as Benjamin Tehoval (France), Rick Payne (2) (UK), Paul Godden (UK). Since 1989 he started to organize tours in Belgium and The Netherlands for various blues and folk artists from UK, USA, Australia etc...and did this till 2000, when he decided to immigrate to South Africa. Kristof died of cancer in hospital UZ Leuven (Belgium) where he was treated for his illness.
