Norman Ross (1922-2008), was a fixture on Chicago TV and radio for decades and was also ubiquitous in the city's civic and cultural circles. At one time Ross could be heard or seen on radio and TV seven shows a week. He hosted shows including "Tunes from Talman" and "Extension 720" on WGN-AM, "Chicago Portrait" on WLS-AM, and did a soothing half-hour of early evening news and commentary for many years on classical WFMT-FM. He held various on-air duties at WLS Television including an interview program called "Off the Cuff." He also wrote commentary for the Chicago Daily News three days a week from 1955 to 1968. His broadcast work won him Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award. His father, former Olympic medalist Norman Ross Sr., was a popular radio personality known to listeners as "Uncle Normie."
