The Moving Van Goghs was a Manhattan, KS-based rock band that existed in the late 1980s through the early 1990s. Harris and the Leggs brothers formed The Moving Van Goghs in Manhattan, KS in 1986 while students at Kansas State University. During its heyday, the band was courted by, and played showcases for record labels such as MCA, Atlantic, and Virgin, but never successfully inked a deal during the record industry's feeding frenzy at the dawn of the grunge movement. Despite the absence of a major label deal, the band managed to independently release three independent recordings: The Moving Van Goghs (1988), Wintermind EP (1990), and Octaphenia EP (1992), to tour regionally, and to share the stage with acts that included: The Flaming Lips, Nova Mob, The Lemonheads, These Immortal Souls, The Swans, Too Much Joy, B.O.M.B., The Embarrassment, Scruffy the Cat, The Pedaljets and Love Tractor.Since disbanding, Michael Leggs, relocated to Minneapolis/St. Paul and formed Revolverina, and has recorded solo material at Third Ear Recording (Minneapolis) with producer/engineer Tom Herbers (Soul Asylum, The Jayhawks) and producer/engineer Paul Sebastien, the founding member of TVT Recording artists Psykosonik, and is currently bassist for the reformed Minneapolis punk band, God's Favorite Band (Twin/Tone Records). Mitchell Leggs and Brian Harris formed the power trio Sufferbus, which was signed to the New York-based El Diablo Musica record label, and toured nationally. Drummer, Eric Melin, toured nationally as founding member of Truck Stop Love (Scotti Bros. Records), power pop trio Ultimate Fakebook (Sony Records), and is currently with Lawrence, KS based Dead Girls Ruin Everything, who are currently on NY-based Reignition Records.Michael Leggs has returned to Third Ear Recording Studios to work with producer/engineer Tom Herbers on remixing and remastering The Moving Van Goghs' recordings that span from 1986-1992, many of which have never been released, in preparation for the release of a 2-Disc Moving Van Goghs retrospective slated for release in early 2007.
