Alex Grillo (b. 1956) is a French virtuoso vibraphonist, originally from Fiume-Veneto in Italy, and currently based in Paris, who produced a few solo vibraphone albums, wrote music for the gamelan ensemble, and collaborated with numerous jazz, experimental, and free improv musicians. Some of his early appearances include jazz concert at Radio France in 1982, and participation in 1985 Nimes Jazz Festival. Alex released a jazz album with Alex Grillo Quintet in 1984, presenting Menu Français and Menù Italiano on each side of the record. In 1989, Grillo was the first musician to team up with Michel Redolfi for underwater performances, which took place in Nice '89, Brisbane '91, and Lisbon '93. Alex also played in a duo with Steve Lacy in 1987-88, as well as Terry Riley over a satellite broadcast in 1993, and Barre Phillips in 1994. The musician has been working with Hélène Labarrière, Didier Petit, Christine Wodrascka, and Christian Sebille. In 2008, Alex Grillo composed and recorded rhythmic music for vibraphone, double bass, prepared piano and tablas for a children's book/CD Lulu, la mouche et l'chat ('Lulu, the fly and the cat' in French), produced with Michèle Moreau and accompanied with Martine Bourre illustrations.
