Mikel Antza

Basque writer, born in San Sabastián (Basque Country, Spain) in 1961. He is actually in prison due to his militancy in ETA since 1985. As a writer, his first work published were in the Basque literary magazine Susa, found by Mikel Antza itself along with other Basque writers as Xabier Montoia around 1979. Since then he has published several books. In 1985 he organized the escape of Iñaki Pikabea and Joseba Sarrionandia from a Spanish prison—both were in jail because they were ETA members. Antza was not a member of ETA then, but after the jailbreak he was forced to run to France, where he joined the armed group. He was arrested in 2002 an condemned in 2010 to 22 years in prison. As a lyricist he has written many popular for bands like Kortatu, Negu Gorriak and others.
