Wilbur Sampson

Australian musician (tenor horn & bass), composer, arranger & bandleader (b. Sydney 1913 - d. Sydney 28 April 1958) Composed and conducted the musical scores for many Australian films, including Chips Rafferty's "King Of The Coral Sea"; composed several libraries of recorded musical "cues", backgrounds & effects; scored and conducted for countless radio shows; arranged extensively for brass bands (as a player he had won the Australian Championship on EFlat bass in 1938); conducted many choirs & musical societies; played string bass with dance bands and other groups and on recordings by various artists including Alec Templeton, the LeGarde Twins, Herbie Marks, Dick Carr, etc. He also wrote numerous radio "singing commercials".
