Mats Larsson Gothe

Swedish composer, born June 29, 1965 in Lammhult. Larsson Gothe studied at Ingesund Academy of Music during the 1980s and then continued with studies in composition at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm 1988–1995 with, among others, Sven-David Sandström, Pär Lindgren and Daniel Börtz as teachers. After graduating, he has been active as a full-time composer. He completed his studies with one year at the Sibelius Academy 1990–1991 with Kalevi Aho as a teacher and various study periods in Italy where he studied for Atli Ingólfsson. Larsson Gothe has composed in many different genres with emphasis on orchestral music and solo concerts, but also chamber music and opera. He had a major breakthrough with the all-night opera Poet & Prophetess, premiered at the Norrland Opera in March 2008. In the years 2009-2012, Larsson Gothe was the house composer at the Norrland Opera in Umeå. The opera Blanche & Marie also attracted a great deal of attention at the world premiere at the Norrland Opera on 10 October 2014 in connection with Umeå's Capital of Culture year, as well as the opera Silverfågeln about Jussi Björling on 10 July 2015 in Vattnäs' concert hall. Blanche & Marie is based on PO Enquist's "Boken om Blanche och Marie" and was broadcast on Swedish Television on 19 September 2015. For this opera he was also awarded the Svenska Dagbladet Opera Prize.
