Johannes Ammon

German violinist, improvisor, and actor Johannes Ammon’s musical studies began in 1968 at Nürnberg’s conservatory, continued in München und Berlin Musikhochschule, and led to his work in numerous chamber music ensembles and symphonies across Europe. After immigrating to the US in 1976, Ammon routinely busked with street musicians in Boston, where he developed the “wildly imaginative” improvisational skills collaborators also describe as “lyrically organic” and “ingenious.” Since returning to Germany in 2000, Ammon has performed, taught, and collaborated with diverse artists, most recently with cellist Paul Stouthamer, numerous Mariachi bands, the Grif Theater, and Freie Bühne Wendland, whose 2021 traveling production of Moby Dick featured Ammon as Captain Ahab.
