Allen Ruppersberg

American conceptual artist (b. 1944, Cleveland, Ohio); lives and works in New York City and Santa Monica, California. Allen Ruppersberg is renowned as one of the core creators of the first generation of US conceptualists, alongside John Baldessari, Ed Ruscha and William Wegman, and the seminal practitioner of installation art. He produced numerous paintings, prints, photographs, sculptures, installations and books. Since the late 1960s, Ruppersberg has had over sixty solo exhibitions and participated in almost 200 group shows. His works are in permanent collections at such prestigious museums as MoMA, Whitney Museum Of American Art, New Museum Of Contemporary Art, The Museum Of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst Frankfurt am Main. Ruppersberg earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1967 at the California Institute Of The Arts (known as "Chouinard Art Institute" back then).
