Born in the Dominican Republic, Leandro Roque came to New York from the village of "La Vega Real" in the Santo Domingo Province in 1954. He adopted the stage name Dominica and became a successful singer of merengues, cumbias, guarachas, boleros, and other Latin styles. He has performed in Puerto Rico, Panama, Colombia, and Venezuela. He still lives in the Bronx, New York and performs at senior centers.
