Wilma Young

Wilma Young is a fiddle player, born and bred in Lerwick in the Shetland Isles that lie roughly halfway between the north of Scotland and the west coast of Norway. Shetland has a famously strong fiddle-playing tradition, so as she was growing up it was difficult to avoid learning to play the fiddle. Wilma has lived in Iceland for over thirty years playing and teaching in Akranes and Reykjavík, where she has introduced many people to the world of traditional music and fiddle music in particular. She became an established part of the local music life and was even asked to play the odd reel at funerals from time to time.
