Peter Shaffer

British playwright whose career was kick-started in 1954 when his first play, The Salt Land, was broadcast by the BBC. He went on to receive much critical acclaim, not only in the West End, but also on Broadway, and was the recipient of an Oscar for best adapted screenplay; a Golden Globe for best screenplay; multiple Tony Awards and a New York Drama Critics' Circle Awards for best play. He died whilst on a trip to the south-west of Ireland. Born: 15th May 1926, in Liverpool, Lancashire, England, Died: 6th June 2016, in the Republic Of Ireland. [natural causes, aged 90]
