R&B Funk and Soul group originating from Springfield Gardens Queens. Motivation, previously known as "Rythums," was formed in 1977 by Ricky Akins a.k.a. "Dabbs" (drummer, lead and background vocals), Melvin PK Prince Shaw (keyboards), Steven Tynes (rhythm guitar, lead and background vocals), Edward Wade Hampton known as "Buggy" (saxophone, percussion, lead and background vocals), Marcus "Pop Tart" Culvert (bass guitar), and Paris Dennis (lead and rhythm guitar, lead and background vocals). They performed at local clubs in their area, especially "The Scene," formerly on Guy Brewer Blvd. In 1983 they where signed with De-Lite Records.
