Andy Roberts (7)

American big band vocalist TV host and TV weatherman. Born in January, 1926 in Fort Monroe, Virginia. Died May 24, 2017 (age of 91). After serving in the Navy during World War II Andy moved to New York and took on the professional name of Andy Roberts. Andy began singing with Skitch Henderson's band, as well as singing with Gene Krupa and Jimmy Dorsey. Andy went on to record two albums and tour with the Sauter-Finegan Orchestra. He appeared regularly on the national TV show "Broadway Open House" (1950–1952). Andy returned to Norfolk and began his career at WTKR-TV Channel 3 in Norfolk, Virginia in 1956 hosting the variety extravaganza "The Andy Roberts Show." Andy continued to host, perform and direct various shows for WTKR before becoming WTKR's weatherman, a position he held for more than 35 years until his retirement in 1992.
