Classical pianist Solchany was born György Szoltsányi in 1922 in Budapest, Hungary. He completed his secondary and musical education at the same time. He did so brilliantly, graduating from school and the Budapest Conservatoire in the same year, with the same distinction - the highest. At the age of 18 he was accepted as a pupil by Ernst von Dohnányi, and after two years received his "Artist's Diploma" and made his official debut with Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra. The war put an end to his musical activities. but afterwards he was in great demand for concerts and recitals throughout Hungary. In November 1946 Solchany came to Paris to work with Madame Marguerite Long, and decided to remain. He was recognised internationally as one of the greatest pianists of his generation and often performed in Germany, England, Holland, Belgium and Italy where he carried off the First Prize in the Naples International Competition. He recorded all six volumes of Béla Bartók's Mikrokosmos. His recording of Diabell-variations received several awards. Towards the end of his life, he mainly focused on recordings. He died in 1988 in Paris.
