The State Hermitage Orchestra (formerly St. Petersburg Camerata) is a Russian chamber orchestra based in St. Petersburg. Created in 1989 by the Lithuanian conductor Saulius Sondeckis as the St. Petersburg Camerata Orchestra. The basis of the orchestra was formed by students of the Leningrad Conservatory, where Sondeckis was a visiting professor. In 1990, at the suggestion of Boris Piotrovsky, director of the State Hermitage, the orchestra came under the patronage of the Hermitage for some time, then worked as a partner group of the recording company Sony Classical, and finally, in 1994, was again invited to become a partner of the Hermitage and received its current name.
