Danish rock vocalist and multi-instrumentalist (born 6 July 1941 in Farum, died 28 January 1999 in Herfølge). One of the early rock'n'roll pioneers in Denmark, taking the "Melvis" moniker from an Elvis Presley parody in Donald Duck magazine. Founded the first pure rock'n'rol band in Denmark, the trio Haki Melvis & His Rock'n'Roll Boys after performing at an amateur-contest at Tivoli, Copenhagen in August 1958, Formed Melvis Rock Band the following year, releasing numerous EPs and singles until disbanding the band early 1961. The same year Melvis & His Gentlemen was formed with a new lineup. They existed until 1967, moving from pure rock'n'roll towards a more English soul inspired style, in a number of different constellations and releasing the album 6669344 in 1965 as well as numerous singles. After a failed come-back attempt in 1973, Melvis reformed his Gentlemen in August 1975 under the moniker Melvis And His Rock'n'roll Band. Under this name he released 5377043 the same year, a newly recorded album of rock'n'roll classics.. In 1983 he performed on the Rocking Silver soundtrack and in the affiliated movie, and in 1989 he released a new album Siden 1958 with Melvis & His Gentlemen. Melvis died in relative obscurity in 1999 after having released one final album ... But Still Gentlemen! under his own name in 1994.
