Boris Gontarev

Boris Gontarev is a professor at the Department of International Journalism at МГИМО. Graduated from Leningrad University, also studied at Harvard University (USA). He began his teaching career at Leningrad University, where he defended his PhD thesis. From 1965 to 1968 he worked at the United Nations Secretariat in New York in the Division of Internships and Training of UN Fellows. In 1982, he began working in Moscow, at the USSR Academy of Sciences, where he was an assistant to the vice president, and then a senior researcher at the Institute for System Research (ВНИИСИ). One of the founders and president (1988) of the first non-state educational institution in the USSR - the Academy of World Civilizations. From 1995 to 2005 taught at the Universities of Southern California (USA). At the invitation of universities in foreign countries (France, Israel, Holland, Sweden), as well as in almost all leading universities in the United States, he lectured in English and French. Since 2006, for graduates of the faculty, he has been giving a mandatory course "Media and World Civilizations" (reflected in a monograph of the same name; МГИМО ed., 2011), and also conducts - in English - elective courses: "Arts Appreciation" ( for 3rd year students) and "Russian Musical Culture" (for foreign students studying at the Institute's master's program).
