Didier Red

Didier Red, better known as Jeroen Polak for friends and acquaintances, started his DJ career in 1992 at De Graanbeurs in Breda. Back then he still played every conceivable style for a broad audience. From 1994 until the end of 1999 he presented his own Dance show at Stadsradio Breda. In those five years of radio, the programming shifted more and more towards soulful house, jazz dance, funk, hip hop, soul, jazz and (older) rhythm & blues. Thanks to the radio program and his experiences from the past, Jeroen was regularly booked as a DJ on jazz and funk events. As a result of the trend in modern pop music to reuse and sample music from other artists, the demand for his performances slowly increased. It turned out to be a good idea to have a DJ playing at various funk nights for a young audience that, instead of the top 40 hits, now heard the original songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s where their favorite artists got their samples from. Meanwhile, Didier Red (the Didier is of course "DJ" in the French pronunciation; to avoid confusion with an existing DJ Red) is quite busy with his musical activities. He played at the "Breda Barst" Open Air Festival, performed at Mezz, appeared in Front, the lounge café of the Chassé Theater. and has been the DJ in residence at the Breda Jazz Festival for more than 20 years.
