British bassist, composer. Often misspelled "Bobby Thompson". He paid his musical dues in the early 60's in his native Liverpool with Rory Storm and the Hurricanes (Ringo was the drummer at the time) and King Size Taylor and the Dominoes, backing everyone from Jimmy Tarbuck to Cilla Black at the famous Cavern. Three years were spent at the Star Club in Hamburg including a few German hit records before he returned to England joining Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers and enjoyed recording success with 'One Way Love.' Endless touring with rock giants Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Carl Perkins followed, even part time membership of Eric Claptons Yardbirds before Bobby moved to the Midlands in1965 to join the Rockin Berries as their Vocalist/Bass player.'' He's in Town '' and Poor Mans Son were big hits. The next eleven years were spent playing upmarket Cabaret Clubs, yearly gigs in Bermuda, various Radio and Television shows and the London Palladium, including a Royal Command Performance in1967. During this time he shared stages with the likes of Tom Jones, Englebert Humperdink and Des O'Connor to name but a few. He left the Berries in 1975 to pursue other musical avenues, playing first with the Mal Ford band and then forming the duo Bits and Bobs. Bobby now works mainly on his own in Midland clubs and pubs but occasionally returns to Liverpool and Germany to play with The Dominoes.
