Walter Frisch is a professor of music at the Columbia University in New York, where he teaches since 1982. He also has been a guest professor and gave lectures in music throughout the US, UK, Europe and China. Professor Frisch is a specialist in music of German and Austrian composers from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries: 'from Schubert to Schönberg'. He wrote numerous articles and two books on Brahms, served as editor of the volume "Brahms and His World" (1990) and was the founding president of the American Brahms Society in 1983. He's also responsible for the liner notes on Brahms releases on Deutsche Grammophon around 1983-1984. Frisch won the ASCAP-Deems Taylor award twice for his writing and was awarded fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (Germany) and the Center for Scholars and Writers at the New York Public Library. Prof. Walter Frisch recently was the Director of Graduate Studies (2009-10) for the Department of Music at Columbia University.
