Life started as an American trio called The Wedge, who befriended Embryo's Christian Burchard and producer Julius Schittenhelm, who helped them find a German bassist and drummer to record their LP, and the prestige of a release by CBS. The two other artists which came from Wedge was Karl Gebhardt aka Kal X Blue aka Linus and LaVerne "Jason" Miller
