German-born American actor and musician. Born 22 March 1920 in Cologne, Germany. Died 6 December 2000 in Manhattan, New York, USA. Son of conductor Otto Klemperer, brother of Lotte Klemperer, and first cousin once removed of Viktor Klemperer. Married to actress Louise Troy from 1969 to 1975 (divorced). He played the role of "Colonel Wilhelm Klink" on the television sitcom Hogan's Heroes (1965-1971). He was an accomplished concert violinist and did some conducting, including the Buffalo Orchestra. Klemperer also appeared as a narrator with nearly every major symphony orchestra in the United States. His repertoire included such works as Beethoven's "Egmont" and "Fidelio," Stravinsky's "L'Historie du Soldat" and "Oedipus Rex." One of his favorite works was as narrator in "Peter and the Wolf," which he performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
