Portuguese cello player, bass guitarist, singer, composer, arranger, and conductor, born in Lisbon (1949), died in Montemor-o-Novo (June 6, 2021). As a jazz musician, he performed with Art Blakey, Rita Reys, and Ronnie Scott. Later joined pop group Quarteto 1111 with his friends Vitor Mamede, Armindo Neves, and Rui Reis. From the late 1970s onwards, he was much in demand in Portugal as an arranger, working with Paco Bandeira and Fernando Tordo. Also conducted television orchestras and participated in the Eurovision Song Contest twice as musical director of his country's entry, in 1982 with Doce and in 1989 with Da Vinci. Later abandoned the studio business in favour of a career as a music teacher.
