American writer, lyricist, and music critic (born 1897 in New York, NY – died April 27, 1981 in New York, NY). Simon was the music critic for "The New Yorker" magazine from its first issue in 1925 until 1948 and the staff critic of the New York Evening Post's "Literary Review." He also wrote original fiction (e.g., "Our Little Girl", 1923; "The Weekend Mystery," 1926; and, under the pseudonym Liggett Reynolds, "Sweet & Low: A Smashing Indictment of the Younger Generation" (1926, a satire of contemporary New York society). In addition, Simon collaborated on a number of popular songs, such as "No Trouble But You" (1926), "I love her!" (1926), "Ups-a-daisy!" (1928), "Will You Remember? Will You Forget?" (1928), "By Special Permission Of The Copyright Owners, I Love You" (1931), and "Speak Easy" (1940). Finally, Simon wrote opera and musical comedy librettos, including an English translation of Gounod's "Faust" (1927).
