Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, the "House Nation" capital of America, Nelson was exposed to dance music at a very young age. Growing up in the mid- late 80's in a bustling urban community introduced Nelson to a lot of different music that was not readily available to the public outside of the deep-rooted city streets. One style of music that instantly struck a chord in Nelson's ear was this wild new sound called "House". One of the strongest outlets for this new sound was the famed "Hot Mix 5" on Chicago's WBMX FM station which featured such legendary DJ's as Steve “Silk" Hurley and Farley" Jackmaster" Funk." I listened to that mix show religiously" states Nelson" and It really helped to educate me on the true origins of dance music". Due to the strong support of the community in Chicago for dance music, the radio stations gave thousands the outlet they needed for t he this type of music. Soon warehouse parties and late nightclub venues were the hotspot, beating 4-4 music all night and into the late afternoon. Soon after Nelson discovered what was going on inside the dance floor he turned his interests to what was going on behind the DJ booth. "My cousin was a big house head and loved to DJ "Nelson points out, "He would always take me out to crash the big club and warehouse parties that were going on and always let me in on what records the DJ's played that were hot and showed me the tips and tricks of DJ's". The strong impression that these early Chicago DJ pioneer's left on Nelson immediately lead him to want to follow in their footsteps. This quickly gave rise to long nights after school locked in either the record shop or in the studio, surrounding himself completely with music. Not long after Nelson started rooting himself in the Chicago dance scene he packed up and moved down to Orlando Florida. " I went down there knowing nothing but House music, " states Nelson, " And Orlando was a city that was based primarily on Breakbeat and Trance sounds so it was a real transition for me. " Nelson adds, " But this was a good thing for me as it helped open me to a lot of new sounds and influence's in dance music because of how diverse it truly was. " Nelson wasted no time working his niche with in the Florida dance scene playing at small house parties and large club venues slowly but surely Nelson worked his way up the ladder. Things got even more promising when Nelson was introduced to the crew at Soul Phusion Records, the world renowned house label. Joining a partnership with the Soul Phusion gang, Nelson stepped up his music ambitions and took on in trying his hand in producing dance music as well. Right off the bat Nelson was on a roll and landed his first remix and official 12-inch release on non-other than Soul Phusion and their release by Swedish house master Chuck Cogan and his #1 hit single "Voodoo". Following upon the success of " Voodoo " Nelson took on remixing Toronto's very own, and 2000's House Producer Of The Year, Hatiras and his hit single "Running Ma n" . Soon other projects followed suit such as remixing California famed Tony B! and David Garcia and their single "Robo funk" . Additional projects for Moonshine Music and Subversive (UK) helped fuel the fire that was spreading throughout the dance circuit thanks to Nelson. From the dance floor, to the decks, the studio and back again, Nelson has always had a musical destiny with and art form and sound some say has yet to see its full potential; rest assured if its potential one is looking for, look no further than Nelson Perez.
