At 16, after seeing Sumo and Todos Tus Muertos live, Kike knew he wanted to have his own group. "The savagery, and the original sound of those bands, and being able to enjoy them live, marked me." This is how Kike Andrada remembers what he felt in the late eighties. With their companions from school of Del Viso, Buenos Aires, they had the habit of going to recitals in the Parakultural. At that time he also meets "Koko" Quintana, thanks to a mutual friend. "I had been skateboarding, and I was already listening to Suicidal Tendencies, Exploited, a couple of bands here," Koko recalls. There was Todos Tus Muertos, the first album had just come out. Kike made me listen. And at the same time we began to share everything that was music, until one day he made me the proposal to put together a band. Obviously, I was excited to start, and we began to see what we were going to do. Like any band that starts, out there influenced by the bands of the moment that one was listening. ” At first they joined together two to compose with an accoustic guitar, but then they looked for the missing members. Before starting with this project, both had already assembled the "Social Pop" fanzine, from which 3 numbers came out.
The band's first line-up was composed by Leonardo "Koko" Quintana in voice, Jorge Antonio "Kike" Andrada on guitar, Betty López on bass (girlfriend at the time, and then Kike's wife), and Mario "El Flaco" Menesunda on drums (who later participated in addition to the thrash Estirpe group). The name they chose for the band was "Los Subversivos", in homage to the 30,000 missing. The debut show was at MacArthur, in 1989. "At that time, if they liked the band, it was a club. If they did not like the band, they would kick you out from stage, or not give to you any atention at all" Koko explains. "Then when we did the first gig the place exploded. Pogo was armed with all the old people of that time, who was easy to get in trouble"
